January and February 2010
All everyone talks about is the weather but Spring is here the Snow Drops are out the Daffs are starting and the birds are really singing. Within 2 weeks the hedges will be spectacular, full of life and raring to go.
2009 OVERVIEW
The weather was very wet in 2009.
It started cold and wet but mostly it was wet, but then Spring popped up. We had a wonderful Spring with the best flowers we have seen. The birds went wild nesting and singing - at last we have warmth and dry. The summer even looked promising - then the rain started. It rained and rained and then rained some more. Some days were filled with sunshine, and we recorded 42 degrees in the courtyard in the sun so when the sun came out it was hot and steamy!
September saw a change in the rain and we actually had a very pleasant Autumn. the leaves went bright colours and roses flowered late...then guess what - it started to rain!
Suddenly we had cold and then snow..in south Devon...rare. But the worst was Christmas. The snow fell on ice and the lane became impossible to drive up unless you had a 4x4 low ratio truck..(we do). Our guests somehow got away on the one day we had a let up.
It was so bad we had to cancel our Santas Grotto, our Christmas lunch in the Barn and nearly New Years Eve. Luckily a few die hards braved the ice and -7 degree temperatures to see in 2010.
However even with the weather not helping comments in the visitor books were wonderful.
So our message to you is:
Never let the weather put you off this enchanting place becuse if you get all the numbers come up there is no where to beat it. AND even if it goes awry we have yet to here from a single person that they wished they had not come.
