The closest shops
Bere Alston has 2 small supermarkets – a SPAR and COOP. They have a good, but basic, range of food, drink including alcohol, and newspapers.

Other village shops include a pharmacy, an excellent butchers with organic vegetables, post office, marvelous secondhand book shop and other small shops.

The nearest pub
Is the Edgecombe in Bere Alston. It does not serve food and is a real village pub, with friendly people. The nearest pub for food is the Olde Plough Inn at Bere Ferrers about 3.5 miles away or the Chip Shop Pub (yes its really called the Chip Shop) 4.5 miles at Chip Shop! There are many others within a 10 mile radius.

The local takeaway
The eating fish and chip shop in Bere Alston has it's own quirky routine! It is closed on Mondays and Tuesday and is rarely open after 8.30pm - it really depends on how everyone feels on the day.

Nearest cash machine
Is the link machine in the village CO-OP. Otherwise all the major banks have cash machines in Tavistock.

Closest garage
The Jet Garage in Bere Alston is the closest - follow the signs for the station and it is on your left

The nearest major branded garage is Texaco in Tavistock. Go to the main road, turn left, take the right fork marked recycling centre. It is at the place the road goes sharp left with a right hand fork. There is a white building on the bend. Follow this bendy road to a T junction onto a one way turn - turn left up to the Drake statue and come back down the road. Cross over the mini roundabout and Texaco is on your left.

The cheapest petrol is normally at Morrisons in Tavistock - go past the Texaco garage to the next mini roundabout turn left to Plymouth. The garage is immediately on your right.

Shopping
There are many wonderful shops in Tavistock. There is also a great pannier market all week except Mondays. The Farmers Market is on Fridays.

Home Deliveries

Tesco deliver to Rumleigh Farm from their online store.

BUT for fresh food why not place an order for local meats and vegetables via the farm to be delivered on Saturday or the day of your choice.

Ready Made Meals

You can order Home Made Meals that are ready to just pop into the oven for Saturday arrival, or are frozen and need a few hours to defrost made by a local chef using only the best local ingredients.

Tavistock TIC is located next to the Town Hall and Market.

Phone, web and email

There is no traditional landline in either Dragonfly or Yellowhammer but mobiles do work, some networks are better than others. This is true over the whole of Devon, Orange is the best here and works indoors whilst O2, 3 and others work best outside. For internet access we have a 8mb broadband wireless network which you are welcome to use if you bring your own wireless enabled laptop.

Water

At Rumleigh we have our very own water supply direct from a spring. By law it has to be treated and tested to a very high standard which includes UV and PH filters. We have therefore the equivalent of supermarket bottled spring water out of the tap!!!

The down side is that if we have a power cut no water can be pumped.

Oh, the joys of the country!!

Recycling

In West Devon recycling is taken very seriously -and the farm takes its Green credentials seroiusly. As a visitor it is important that you play your part in this and we trust you will help us keep Devon Green.

We have a weekly collection of recyclables which have to be separated, they are:

1. Paper
2. Glass
3. Paper
4. Cans

We also provide you with a compost bin - this will take vegetable peelings, tea bags and coffee grounds - things we can't recycle are meat, bread, cheese and other processed foods.

There is ample parking, close to the door of the accommodation.

Electrical and Heating

Yellowhammer has gas central heating and a wood burner. White goods include fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine, dryer and dishwasher. Appliances include kettle, toaster, hairdryers, clock radios, DVD, CD player and Flat screen TV.

Dragonfly has underfllor heating and a gel burner. White goods include fridge freezer, microwave, washing dryer, dryer and dishwasher. Appliances includes kettle, toaster, hairdryers, clock radio, DVD, CD player and Flat screen TV.

Linen

We provide linen and towels for the properties. If you are staying for more than one week the towels will be changed at the end of the first week. If you wish to change the bedding you may request clean linen to change the beds.

As we cannot accept responsibility for their safety or of our other guests. We have decided that we can not accept pets of any kind. However we do NOT include Guide Dogs or animals that assist a guests mobility in any way in this.

In Yellowhammer we have a travel cot and a booster high chair and or a high chair. There are also plastic bowls and cups for kids, straws, and bath time play toys. The kids have a bookcase of toys and games and a collection of suitable DVDs available.

Please remember this is the countryside and your child will get muddy… so bring wellies…even in summer! If they are outside we are happy, if they are old enough, for them to wander freely but if they are vulnerable they must be accompanied by an adult.

The Rumleigh Farm has a very bouncy dog called Ruby, she is very friendly but can startle a toddler.

Departure time is 10.00 am. We would be very grateful if you would adhere to this time as this allows us time to prepare the cottage for the next guests.

If you want to have a special event such as a wedding reception, party or anniversary we can help.

We have many options available including:

A marquee on the lawn with sit down for up to 24 guests or BBQ Buffet for up to 200

Guests can stay at Rumleigh and at local B&Bs if required. We are open to all suggestions for a special event. It can be a camp out for kids or a stylish meal for adults…why not have a chat with us to make your event very special.
