In the local area there are an amazing amount of things to do for all ages and interests from historical buildings to aquariums, woods to beaches and fishing to golf.

This is the must do for anyone who wants to get down and active. Its great fun and can be as easy or as hard as you want but all the activioties are physically demanding but there is no upper age limit. The height restriction is 1.5m and a weight limit of 20 stone 127kgs. Children under 12 years of age will need to be supervised by and adult.

Walking

There are simply stunning walks around Rumleigh Farm and within the local area. Leaflets are supplied which show meeting points for guided walks which include villages and Dartmoor.

There are of course all the historic houses locally as well that each have beautiful walks around breathtaking gardens, not to mention Plymouth Hoe and the miles of beaches and coves within a resonable car ride.

 

Just come prepared for all sorts of weather, even in summer the mists can come in quickly, and have good walking shoes.

Beaches

Beaches are on the south and north coasts of Devon and Cornwall and at Rumleigh you are able to get to both coasts in about an hour. It really depends on where and what you want. The closest  sand beach in about 45 minutes.

Some beaches are dog friendly all year some are only between certain times.

The north coast beaches are from an hour to and hour and half . However it really depends on the traffic.

Boating

The River Tamar is the life blood of the valley and at Rumleigh you are only 500m away.

If you fancy getting down and close (and we recommend that you do) to the river there are plenty of choices available.

Tamar Sail give 3 hours up to whole days cruises in a beautiful, traditional gaff-rigged cornish boat. Space for 6. The skippers knows the best places to go and this is a wonderful way to spend a warm day. Booking essential Timings depend on tides.

Glide quietly around and really see the wildlife with Canoe Tamar. Everything you need is provided including an instructor, river guide and all your safety equipment. Suitable for all ages, but a real hit with the kids and loads of fun. Booking essential.

See the Tamar on the Idler passenger ferry which links Calstock, Cotehele, and Ferry Farm, Bere Alston linking Devon and Cornwall. Or you can go on ML Gloria, a 36ft harbour Launch for 1 and a half hour river trips. Advance booking essential.

Tamar Valley River Cruise and Train ride for a day out that takes you all the way from Plymouth to Calstock. One way on the river and the other on the train via the beautiful Tamar valley line.

Hiring Cycles is very easy from Rumleigh and if you keep them for a few days there is a covered shed to keep them safe and dry.

At Rumleigh Farm you can request a drop off and pick up service for up to 4 people and their bikes which has to be booked in advance when charges will be given.

As the farm is at the bottom of a valley there is a steep climb to the top. If this is not in your skill level we are happy to get you the top of the hill....after all coming down is easy!!!!

Remember if you have your own bike you can always bring them and we have enough place to store them whilst you don't need them.

Riding

There are plenty of opportunities to ride locally.
