The Closest Shops
1.5 miles away Bere Alston has 2 small supermarkets – a SPAR and Co-op. They have a basic range of basic foods and drinks.
The Spar sells freshly baked bread. There is also a Pharmacy, an excellent butcher that also sells organic vegetables, cheese and soups. A post office and other small shops. The village pub, The Edgecombe, serves basic sandwiches and allows children and dogs in until 7.30pm. There is also a fish and chip shop, a garage, a hairdressers and an intriguing bookshop that sells second hand books. Nearest pub food is The Plough in Bere Ferrers which is 4 miles away.
Nearest Cash Point
There is a cash machines in the Co-op in Bere Alston. Otherwise the nearest hole in the wall is Tavistock.
Closest Garage
Jet Garage Bere Alston is the closest but not open after normal shop hours: follow the signs for the station and it’s on your left. Main road, turn right, into village turn left to Station. Garage on your left.
If you turn left at the main road and keep going straight you will come to Carrrs Garage 01822 616747 . Go up to the main road, turn left, keep going on the road across the roundabout Carrs will be found at the second major cross roads. Takes 10 minutes.
Tavistock has two main garages. Texaco and Morrisons. Takes about 10 minutes.
Go to the main road, turn left, take the right fork marked recycling centre. It is at the place the road goes sharp left with a right hand fork. There is a white building on the bend. Follow this bendy road to a T junction. It is one way turn so turn left up to the Drakes statue and come back down the road. Cross over the mini roundabout and Texaco is on your left. Morrisons is further on past Texaco to mini roundabout . Take left exit Morrisons on your Right.
Shopping
Tavistock has a wonderful Pannier market all week except Mondays. A Farmers Market outside the Town Hall every Friday. Interesting independent shops and easy, relaxed walking.
Tavistock Tourist centre is located next to the Town Hall and Market.
Plymouth can be reached via train as it’s a very pretty ride and is only 20 minutes from Bere Alston Station. If you decide to drive the park and ride is good as parking is an issue at busy times.
All the well known big chains are in the centre with some very interesting independents around the Barbican. This is probably the place to head for as a visitor. Plymouth is an easy day out with the Hoe and the sea front to visit as well as shops and restaurants.

BUT you can also place an order via the farm with the local shops for fresh local meat, eggs and organic seasonal vegetables.
Big Supermarkets
Although we would encourage you to support small independent shops and the village, there are times when we all need a big supermarket. In Tavistock we have Morrisons (10mins) on the road to Plymouth and Sommervilles on the main street (10mins) Tesco (20mins) can be found at Roborough Down on the way to Plymouth City Centre. Waitrose (30mins) is over the river in Saltash Asda (20mins) is Estover (left at the Park and ride) again towards Plymouth. BUT PLEASE SUPPORT OUR LOCAL SUPPLIERS.
